🌿 Description

Cream Pop is a new cherry tomato developed directly at Semence Canada. Created through our own selection and crossbreeding work, notably using our Ruée vers l’or tomato combined with other carefully selected varieties, it represents the culmination of several traits we were looking for: a compact plant, abundant production, distinctive color, and above all, remarkable flavor with very little acidity.

The plant remains relatively compact, generally reaching around 80 cm in height, while developing dense foliage capable of supporting numerous fruit clusters.

The fruits grow in generous clusters containing several cherry tomatoes. Their size falls between small and medium cherry tomatoes: small enough to enjoy whole, yet meaty enough to provide a satisfying bite.

🍑 A Distinctive Cream-Peach Color

Cream Pop immediately stands out for its unusual coloration.

The immature fruits begin in very pale shades of green before gradually transitioning to cream, then soft creamy yellow, developing delicate peach undertones at full maturity.

This is therefore not a typical bright yellow or orange tomato. Its coloration remains intentionally soft, pale, and creamy, giving ripe clusters an almost pastel appearance.

👅 Flavor

This is probably where Cream Pop delivers its biggest surprise.

Behind its delicate color lies a surprisingly intense tomato flavor. It retains the rich aromatic character of a fresh tomato while offering an extremely low perception of acidity on the palate.

The result is a tomato that is:

• intensely flavorful;
• sweet and very mildly acidic;
• delicious eaten straight from the plant;
• juicy without losing its character;
• particularly appealing to those who enjoy true tomato flavor but prefer a less acidic taste.

The combination of aromatic intensity, sweetness, and very low perceived acidity gives Cream Pop a profile quite different from conventional yellow cherry tomatoes. Research on tomatoes has also shown that flavor intensity, sweetness, and acidity can vary considerably depending on genotype and are important traits in varietal selection.

🍅 Production

Despite its relatively modest size, Cream Pop is a highly productive variety.

The fruits develop in clusters containing several tomatoes, and the plant can simultaneously carry multiple clusters at different stages of ripeness.

Its plant-size-to-fruit-production ratio is one of its greatest advantages. This compact growth habit is particularly useful in gardens where space is limited, and compact tomatoes are also well suited to container growing.

🪴 Container Growing

Thanks to its compact growth habit, Cream Pop is an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Use a sufficiently large, well-drained container, filled with rich potting soil formulated for vegetables. Although the plant remains compact, its heavy fruit production requires regular feeding and enough growing medium to support healthy development.

A small stake or tomato cage can also be useful once the plant begins carrying numerous clusters, helping prevent fruit-laden branches from bending or drooping.

🌱 Sowing

Sow seeds indoors approximately 6 to 8 weeks before the expected transplanting date outdoors. This is a commonly recommended starting period for tomatoes.

Sow approximately 5 mm deep in fine, lightly moistened seed-starting mix. Maintain warm temperatures and consistent moisture until germination.

After emergence, place seedlings under abundant light as soon as possible to encourage compact, sturdy growth.

🌤️ Transplanting

Transplant outdoors once all significant risk of frost has passed and after gradually acclimating the plants to outdoor conditions.

Choose a warm location receiving full sun. Tomatoes require substantial sunlight to ensure good flowering and fruit set; horticultural guidance from the University of California recommends at least six hours of sunlight per day.

💧 Watering & Care

Keep the soil evenly moist without allowing it to become waterlogged.

Deep, regular watering is preferable to frequent shallow watering. When growing in containers, monitor moisture more closely, as the growing medium can dry considerably faster during hot weather.

Regular applications of fertilizer formulated for tomatoes can help support the plant as fruit production increases.

Because of its compact growth habit, Cream Pop requires considerably less space than a large indeterminate tomato variety.
