Asclepias incarnata Butterfly Flower

Swamp Milkweed is an erect perennial grown for the umbel-like inflorescences of flowers it produces. Flowering, from June to August, produces flowers with 5 reflective petals of pink or white color, and which are fragrant with a smell of vanilla. The dark green foliage is made of long lanceolate leaves. Plant it in full sun in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil. The flower umbels attract butterflies such as monarchs, and it is poisonous. It is a wild plant found in wet fields and on the edges of waterways.
