Dragon Fruit, also called pitaya, is a fascinating tropical plant belonging to the cacti family. Native to Central and South America, this exotic plant is distinguished by its fruits with bright pink skin and white flesh dotted with small black seeds.
The Dragon Fruit plant is characterized by its epiphytic appearance, with creeping stems that can measure up to 10 meters long. Its nocturnal flowers, white or pink in color, bloom in the evening and fade at daybreak. It is from these flowers that heart-shaped fruits are formed, with juicy and sweet flesh.
To grow Dragon Fruit, it is important to plant it in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It is recommended to place it in a sunny location, with an ideal temperature between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. It is also advisable to water the plant regularly, but be careful not to leave stagnant water around its roots.
To promote the germination of pitaya seeds, it is recommended to soak them in lukewarm water for 24 hours before planting them in a light, well-aerated substrate. It is best to maintain constant humidity until the seeds germinate, which may take several weeks. Once the seedlings are sufficiently developed, they can be transplanted into individual pots to encourage their growth.
