Savory

Also known as winter savory or donkey pepper in Provence, mountain savory occurs naturally in southern Europe. It has a much stronger flavor than summer savory, so its leaves and stems should be used sparingly to replace pepper or to flavor meat and vegetable dishes. Planted at the edge of the garden, it repels unwanted insects, but attracts many pollinating insects thanks to its honey flowers. This hardy savory is not afraid of winter in zone 4. It is easily grown in the ground or in a pot. Like summer savory, it has many medicinal properties (digestive, stimulating, antiseptic and antiputrid) and was once considered a magical aphrodisiac plant.

Here are a few tips to help you optimize the germination of the seeds you have ordered.

Be sure to place your seeds in an environment conducive to germination. Using a mini greenhouse will help you keep your seeds at the perfect moisture level.

Do not overload the pellets, 1 or 2 seeds per pellet are sufficient.

**Be careful not to water too much, but always keep the pellets very moist.

Also, keep the mini greenhouse near a heat source, since the seeds like to be warm. A temperature between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius would be ideal.

Once the plants are about 4cm tall and healthy, you can transplant them into larger compartments. A good indicator that it is time to transplant will be the appearance of a root at the base of the pellet.

Wait until after the last frost before moving your plants outside. Usually at the beginning of June.
